Ah, il mondo del make-up. Rossetti, ombretti, eyeliner, fondotinta e...tanti clienti da soddisfare per chi lavora nel settore. Esistono look da sfilata, seducenti e teatrali; look da cerimonia, più soft ed eleganti; look per photoshoot, il cui compito è rispettare l'identità del brand che stanno pubblicizzando. E poi esistono donne provenienti da ogni parte del globo, tutte desiderose di uscire dal salone con il trucco dei propri sogni.
Potrebbe sembrare strano, ma essere un abilissimo make-up artist che nel corso della propria carriera ha saputo coccolare centinaia di ragazze bianche, non significa automaticamente essere in grado di usare pennelli e stendere pigmenti anche su incarnati più scuri, che richiedono tutto un altro tipo di accortezze.
E potrebbe sembrare persino più assurdo, ma avere del talento e un mare di creatività ed essere neri, a volte non porta al successo che si meriterebbe perché...bhe, perché viviamo in un'epoca che, ahime, ancora trasuda di razzismo.
Negli ultimi anni però, personalità dell'universo beauty hanno saputo farsi strada armate di palette e spry fissanti, con l'obiettivo di far sentire ogni donna Beyoncé almeno per un giorno, indipendentemente dalla loro etnia e colore dell'incarnato. Questo articolo celebra proprio loro.
Pat McGrath
Regina delle sfilate, Pat McGrath dai primi anni '90 lavora dietro le quinte dei fashion show più prestigiosi, creando look spettacolari su e per il viso di ogni modella. Conosciuta come la "mamma del trucco", la McGrath è stata eletta da sua Maestà Elisabetta II Membra dell'Ordine dell'Impero Inglese, e la temutissima Anna Wintour la ritiene "la make-up artist più influente del mondo". Come se questo non bastasse, l'artista ha una propria linea di trucchi, i cui prodotti fanno il tutto esaurito nel giro di pochi secondi dalla loro uscita. Una leggenda.
Sir John
Vi siete mai chiesti come faccia Queen Bey a condurre due ore di performance senza che le coli il fondotinta o la linea di eyeliner le si sbiadisca? Tutto merito del suo make-up artist Sir John. Quest'uomo dalle mani d'oro, ha iniziato il suo percorso come allievo di McGrath e Charlotte Tilbury, per poi spiccare il volo e raggiungere un proprio stile e tratto distintivo. Oltre Beyoncé, la sua clientela vanta nomi come Olivia Culpo e Ashley Graham. Ha recentemente debuttato in TV con il suo show American Beauty Star.
Ashunta Sheriff
Se siete fan della serie televisiva Empire, allora sarà capitato anche a voi di rimanere a bocca aperta di fronte al trucco sempre perfetto di Cookie, interpretata da Taraji P. Henson. Il merito va alla strepitosa Ashunta Sheriff che collabora con l'attrice da anni, rendendola bellissima anche fuori dal set.
AJ Crimson
Non tutti gli eroi indossano un mantello, alcuni di loro creano una linea di trucchi di qualità e che si sposa perfettamente con ogni incarnato dai toni scuri. AJ Crimson ha dichiarato: “Volevo creare un prodotto in cui tutte le donne potessero credere e a cui sentissero di appartenere. Molto spesso i trucchi sono creati con la mentalità uno va bene per tutti. La mia linea di cosmesi contiene sfumature per donne di ogni etnia." E come se questo non bastasse, il make-up artist ha creato un kit di campioncini contenenti 12 tonalità diverse di fondotinta da provare per scovare il più adatto al proprio incarnato. Altro che Superman.
Sheika Daley
Se c'è qualcuno che sa usare ed osare con i colori, quella è sicuramente Sheika Daley. Con i suoi look audaci e squillanti, mostra alle donne di colore che possono concedersi smokey eye vistosi e labbra che catturano l'attenzione. Non è un caso che Nicki Minaj l'abbia scelta come sua make-up artist.

And then there are women from all over the world, all eager to leave the beauty salon with the makeup of their dreams.
It may seem strange, but being a very talented make-up artist who has been able to pamper hundreds of white girls during their career does not automatically mean they can also apply pigments on darker skin tones, which require a whole different kind of skills. And it may seem even more absurd, but having talent and creativity and being black, sometimes does not lead the person to the success they deserve because . . . well, because there's still racism.

Pat McGrath
Queen of fashion shows, Pat McGrath has been working behind the scenes of the most prestigious fashion shows since the early 90s, creating spectacular looks for thousands of models. Known as the mother of make-up, McGrath was elected by her Majesty Elizabeth II Member of the Order of the English Empire, and Anna Wintour considers her "the most influential make-up artist in the world". As if that was not enough, the artist has his own make-up line, and her products go sold out within only a few seconds. A legend.
